Doncaster has been given £90,000 lottery cash to bring classical music to the borough over the next three years.

Doncaster Council’s Arts Service has been given the lottery cash from Arts Council England. Staff who run the Doncaster HotHouse Festival will work in partnership with the Manchester Camerata orchestra to provide a range of opportunities designed to involve people and encourage interest in the delights of classical music.

The development of a classical music programme is part of ongoing work to create a diverse programme of entertainment ready for opening of Doncaster’s new £22.3million performance venue in spring 2013.

Manchester Camerata will play the first A Place for Music concert at the Civic Theatre on Wednesday December 1, starting at 7.30pm.

The concert will be part of the autumn Doncaster HotHouse Festival and will see the orchestra playing Baroque favourites including Bach, Handel, Purcell and Vivaldi.

The three-year programme will see nine concerts in the town centre and across the borough, with the final concert due to be played in the new performance venue in July 2013.
