Composed Questions at Oakwood High School

Posted on January 7, 2011

9th of November 2010 – and two musicians from Manchester Camerata Barbara Grunthal and Tim Chatterton took their musical skills into Oakwood High School for a special composition day – supported by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors.

For many at the school this was the first chance for the children to come face to face with real musicians and hear them talk about their instruments and how they started out.

The one day creative residency was divided into three parts. Year 9 students composed music on the theme of outer space. Year 10 had a flavour of making podcasts on the theme of Careers in Music. The third part saw the preparation of songs for a public performance at the Lowry in April.

The composition session was followed by a Question and Answer opportunity with some pretty searching questions about music making from the pupils.

Listen to Manchester Camerata Podcasts   Hear how Barbara Grunthal and Tim Chetterton got on when they visited Oakwood High School for a special Composition day, and listen to some of the tough questions they faced from aspiring musicians at the school.
