Gábor Takács-Nagy in Verbier Triumph

Manchester Camerata’s new Music Director Gábor Takács-Nagy is in the Alps at the moment, wearing one of his hat as Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. His debut concert at this year’s festival, alongside violinist David Garrett was aired live by Medici.tv

On Saturday 16 July Gabor performed with the internationally acclaimed violinist David Garrett presenting a programme of Beethoven and Shchedrin at the Salle des Combins.

In his second concert at the Verbier Festival, he appeared on stage with with Angelika Kirschschlager, mezzo Juliane Banse, soprano Lars Vogt, piano.

Both programmes were broadcast live and free by Medici.tv from the Alpine resort and are available to watch again.

Gábor Takács-Nagy was appointed Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in 2007. He toured Asia with the orchestra and mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade. Gábor Takács-Nagy is also a founder member and first violin of the Takács Quartet, but since 2001 has devoted himself full-time to orchestral conducting. Since 2007, he has been guest Chief Conductor of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV, and regularly conducts the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Appointed professor of chamber music at the Geneva Conservatory and the Ecole Supérieur de Musique in Sion in 1997, Gábor Takács-Nagy also gives masterclasses at numerous international academies, including the Verbier Festival Academy, in which he plays an active role.
