Doncaster: Musicians take up Residence!

Posted on October 2, 2011

Manchester Camerata has a residency in Doncaster for the first time in the 2011-12 Season. During the year the Orchestra will be performing various concerts, but look out also for other musical events including appearances by Camerata’s Musician in Residence in Doncaster Zoe Long.

Zoe studied cello at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Stefan Popov for four years, during which time she won the Elsie Doris Moss Memorial Prize.

In the following years she trialled with The Royal Ballet Sinfonia, The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and The BBC Philharmonic where she later took up a short term contract as a full time member.

After a year in The Orchestra do Norte in Portugal as Co-Principal cello she returned to England to take up a position in Manchester Camerata.

More recently Zoe has performed many concerts as Principal cello with the New World Ensemble and recorded three CDs of British Contemporary music with the NWE Quartet.

You’ll also see Zoe playing with the Orchestra of Opera North and many of the other orchestras in the north of England.

One of the first events of the season has seen Helen Quayle (trumpet) and Janet Fulton (percussion) perform at Frenchgate Shopping Centre in central Doncaster.

The aim is to take the music out of the concert halls to reach out to new audiences.
