Manchester Camerata is proud to be part of the Manchester Weekender – Forty-eight hours of art, culture, music, film, food, literature, walks, politics, poetry, photography, theatre, spectacle and games all wrapped up into a single weekend. |
| The Manchester Weekender showcases the best of Manchester’s art and culture, its museums, galleries, festivals and events.
It shines a light on the hidden nooks and crannies, the real history and fabricated tales of Manchester. It stages a series of one-off, intimate events that sum up the city. It pairs international artists, musicians, writers and more with some of the city’s most beautiful settings. And it does this for one weekend only – forty-eight hours of some of the most unusual cultural experiences you’ll find anywhere in the UK. Manchester Camerata is right at the heart of the event, with a concert which brings together music and literature. |

| Acclaimed poet Michael Symmons Roberts has been commissioned to write new poems inspired by the evening’s Manchester Camerata programme which includes Mozart arias and his Symphony No 40 and Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations – You can hear both the poems and the music that inspired them live on the same evening. |
| Other highlights of the Manchester Weekender include – a evening of cabaret and cocktails at the opening of Adolphe Valette: A Pioneer of Impressionism in Manchester at The Lowry with music from the Swing out Sister.
Corinne Drewery and Andy Connell will serenade the city with a selection of songs from iconic Mancunian bands including Joy Division, The Smiths, and New Order. Drummer Mike Joyce is curating an intimate night of the finest indie music talent at Ruby Lounge. Performances take place under a pavilion of light, the first of a series of installations produced in collaboration between CUBE gallery and the Manchester School of Architecture. Closing The Manchester Weekender this year is one of the most iconic performers of the last twenty year Jarvis Cocker. Marking the publication of a book of his song lyrics, he will discuss with Dave Haslam, DJ and writer, what it means to be a man-of-ideas-and-artistry, and a cultural-provocateur. Finally, the ever-popular Whitworth After Hours has invited photographic collective BlackLab to respond to its Dark Mattersexhibition. Watch as images collide and collude with film, soundscapes, slogans and texts. |
