NoteAble Numbers – Second Stage Complete!

Pupils from secondary schools across the North West of England have completed the second stage of an exciting project – sponsored by Bank of America Merrill Lynch – aimed at building an appreciation of numbers, maths and music making.
The secondary school stage of our NoteAble Numbers workshops has come to a close as VI Form colleges await their turn in the New Year.
Pupils from Golborne High School, Trinity High School and Blacon High schools worked with composer Kate Pearson and Camerata musicians – Bassonist Ben Hudson, Percussionist Janet Fulton, Trumpeter Helen Quayle and Video Artist Will Robinson – to build upon pre-existing songs provided by primary schools.
They also create their own sections.
The students created rhythmic, harmonic and vocal layers to the songs written by the primary school children using maths processes at a higher level. They also created their own section of a group piece about Pi.
This project, sponsored by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, sees maths being used across primary, secondary and further education levels at greater depth accordingly, to create new music.

The project culminates at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester on Friday 23 March 2012, at 2pm. The performance will also be streamed onto Manchester Camerata’s website.
