Castlechurch’s Portrait Of War
Posted on March 12, 2012
Children from a Stafford primary school will be performing their own interpretation of life in their neighbourhood during the Second World War, before Manchester Camerata’s next concert in the city on Wednesday 14 March 2012.
The children – from Castlechurch Primary School worked with a composer, dramatist and a Camerata musician to create the piece, inspired by the repertoir to be played in the orchestra’s next Stafford event.
Manchester Camerata’s season theme this year has been Portraits – and the accompanying Learning and Participation work has encouraged children especially to create a portrait of their community as they see it. The Stafford concert – Echoes of War was an ideal opportunity to allow the children to learn about Stafford during the war.
The project team included composer Andy Smith, Dramatist Paul Hine and Camerata French Horn player Dave Tollington.
The resulting `mini-opera’ will be performed as a pre-concert event on Wednesday 14 March at 6.45pm.
