Samantha McShane Speaks At Calvert 22 Conference

Manchester Camerata’s Head of Creative Programming, Samantha McShane recently braved a challenging 17 hour journey, a missing suitcase (necessitating a 45 minute Russian shopping spree) and a night train from Voronezh to Moscow, to speak at Calvert 22, a 2 day creative conference in Voronezh, Russia.

The conference explored Manchester’s experience of developing its creative industries with the support of the City’s Council and how this has driven growth in the city’s other creative industries and established an increasingly attractive city brand.  The Russian delegates learnt about the partnerships that exist in Manchester, how these came about, the ways in which creative organisations push boundaries when programming events, and how these templates might be duplicated in their own city, while overcoming the challenges which currently exist there.

Samantha’s talk about Camerata’s role in the City’s renaissance was warmly received, and the valuable experience of meeting key contacts both from Manchester and Voronezh, and exploring potential exchanges was well worth the arduous and eventful journey!
