Co-Leader

‘Every phrase is executed with such flamboyance, enhanced by her passion.’

Sinfonia Cymru review, Buzz Magazine

Hi I’m Caroline! I hold the Co-Leader position at Manchester Camerata and I’m the Leader of chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru. I enjoy a regular duo partnership with Camerata’s esteemed principal cellist (and my good friend) Hannah Roberts and I was the first violinist of the award-winning Zelkova Quartet from 2010 until 2019. I studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music with Professor Wen Zhou Li and I’m now developing my own pedagogical career as a violin tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

During my time leading the Zelkova Quartet the group were winners of the 2017 St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition and the 2014 Royal Overseas League Elias Fawcett Award for Outstanding Chamber Ensemble. We also recorded a CD of music written by Nicholas Simpson released by the label Stone Records. I now enjoy a variety of chamber music collaborations with colleagues at Sinfonia Cymru, Manchester Camerata, Manchester Collective, Vonnegut Collective, Psappha Ensemble and Ensemble Deva.

As a soloist I hold a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and a Postgraduate Performance Award from Help Musicians UK (formerly known as Musicians Benevolent Fund). Highlights include directing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with Sinfonia Cymru and performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto in Bridgewater Hall with conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier.

I have a particular fondness for the Australian comedy violin duo TwoSetViolin and I love playing the violin at my church on Sundays.
