Songbook Of The Earth

Date: Monday 16th November 2009 00:00

Throughout 2009/10 Manchester Camerata will be working in partnership with The Bridgewater Hall Community Education Trust to deliver Songbook of the Earth in 14 schools across Greater Manchester and Chester. Inspired by Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, KS2 pupils will work with composer Kate Pearson, poet Terry Caffrey, and Manchester Camerata musicians to write their own brand new songs. Each song will focus on an aspect of the earth, it’s history and future, from the big bang, the formation of land and seas, the planet’s varied and diverse climates and populations, to global warming, climate change and the future of humankind.

All the songs will be performed by their young creators, accompanied by Manchester Camerata, in a massed Gala Performance at The Bridgewater Hall, on 19th April 2010. All songs will be gathered together and published at the end of the project.Songbook of the Earth has an online strand, open to all schools that would like to participate remotely to create their own song and then and join the final live events.
