Blackburn Classics With Manchester Camerata
Date: Friday 01st February 2013 19:30
Venue: King George's Hall, Blackburn
As part of the Blackburn Classics series, Manchester Camerata presents an eclectic programme spanning centuries and continents. Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba gets the concert of to a sprightly start, followed by one of Elgar’s favourite works, his nostalgic Serenade for Strings. In total contrast, Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, which was inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, incorporates jazz and Argentinian tango into a work full of luscious harmonies and punchy, earthy folk rhythms.
Laurence Perkins, Manchester Camerata’s longstanding principal bassoon takes centre stage for Mozart’s first concerto for wind instrument, the Bassoon Concerto K191. The concert reaches a rousing conclusion with Mozart’s effervescent Symphony no.29.
Pre-concert talk at 6-7pm with Giovanni Guzzo. £3.50 per person, includes a glass of wine and canapes. Book directly with the box office.
