Chester Music Festival – Manchester Camerata With Royal Northern College Of Music

Manchester Camerata perform alongside the Royal Northern College of Music in the beautiful surroundings of Chester Cathedral, as part of the Chester Music Festival. This is the second of two festival concerts featuring a small number of top level musicians with major international careers already upon them.

British conductor Duncan Ward is emerging as one of the most exciting talents of his generation. In 2013 he is Music Director of the critically-acclaimed charityStreetwise Opera&s 10thanniversary production andwas recently appointed on the recommendation of Sir Simon Rattle as Conducting Scholar at the Berlin Philharmonic.

After winning several grand prizes in her native Korea, Jackie Jaekyung Yoohas enjoyed further success in international competitions and has appeared as soloist with orchestras and performed numerous solo recitals across Europe.She performs Shostakovich&s Piano Concerto no. 1, one of the composer&s most popular works, with a wealth of uplifting tunes, frequent, provocative changes of mood and a wonderfully high-spirited last movement.

Two Haydn symphonies complete the programme, including ‘La Poule&, which derives its nickname from the ‘clucking& second subject of its first movement.
