Carmen Reworked In Stafford
Date: Friday 25th April 2014 19:30
Venue: Gatehouse Theatre, Stafford
Grieg&s Holberg Suite is a perennial favourite, a suite of five movements based on eighteenth century dance forms, awash with charming melodies. We are joined by Christian Ihle Hadland, one of Norway&s most exciting young pianists, for the final Mozart concerto of the season, no.12, an early work performed here with just string orchestra. Rodion Shchedrin&s memorable work for strings and five percussionists is a reworking of Bizet&s Carmen – think all Bizet&s tunes dressed in differently coloured clothes – dramatic, entertaining and incredibly witty.
