Camerata In Valencia

Date: Wednesday 18th February 2015 20:00

Venue: Palau de la Musica, Valencia

Manchester Camerata makes its second trip to Spain this season for a concert at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, with clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna.

Joan Enric Lluna is a versatile soloist who combines his career as a soloist with conducting and teaching. He has performed with many leading orchestras as guest principal clarinet including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and London Symphony Orchestra, and in particular is an advocate of contemporary and unusual clarinet repertoire. In this concert he will be joining Manchester Camerata to perform one of the favourites of the clarinet repertoire, Weber’s Clarinet Concerto, which is one of the composer’s most famous works. Joan Enric Lluna will also perform Ramon Carnicer’s Fantasia for Clarinet and Orchestra which was written in 1849 for the interviews for the post of Professor of Clarinet at the Madrid Conservatory. After a rhapsodic introduction there follows a fast movement of ferocious virtuosity, no doubt designed to test the suitability of the candidates!

Manchester Camerata will also perform Poulenc’s Sinfonietta. This four movement work was written in 1947 and is full of lush romantic harmonies and a range of styles, characters and dance-like rhythms.
