The Godfather Live – Bristol

Date: Sunday 18th September 2016 19:30

Venue: Colston Hall, Bristol

What can be said about The Godfather that hasn’t already been said? Worry not, no need to say anything—just sit back, watch, and listen to us perform the live soundtrack to “arguably the great American work of popular art”.

Following the extraordinary success of sold out shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall, The Godfather Live, a celebration of the crime classic regularly cited as one of the greatest films ever made, returns to the UK.

Francis Ford Coppola’s timeless masterpiece The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino and winner of three Academy Awards, will be shown on the big screen whilst Nino Rota&s epic score is performed simultaneously by a live orchestra.

Rota achieved international acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s for his work with Italian directors scoring movies including White Nights, The Leopard and La Dolce Vita. His music for The Godfather, including its immortal love theme, was ranked fifth in the influential American Film Institute’s list of the greatest scores ever written.

The Godfather, released in 1972 to popular and critical acclaim, tells the story of the Corleones and their rivalry with other New York crime families between 1945 and 1955, as the title character (Brando) hands over the reins of power to his youngest son (Pacino).

In 2008, an Empire magazine vote saw The Godfather named as the greatest film ever made, a distinction also awarded to the film by Entertainment Weekly and Metacritic. It came second in Sight Sound&s 2002 list and Time Out&s 2003 readers& poll, and is currently ranked at number two in IMDb’s all-time list.

Film Certificate 15 (suitable only for 15 years and over). Please note the film will start at 7.30pm.
