Artistic Treat for Patrons

On Thursday 15 April, Patrons of both Manchester Camerata and the Manchester Art Gallery were treated to a special recital from one of the regions most celebrated musicians; the Camerata’s Sub-principal cellist Hannah Roberts. 

On an evening where the gallery was closed to the public, guests were invited to take a look at some of the gallery’s most prized pieces from its 19th century collection including William Etty’s newly restored ‘The Sirens and Ulysses.

The patrons were welcomed by the Head of Manchester City Galleries, Moira Stevenson, and Manchester Camerata’s Chief Executive Bob Riley, before enjoying an intimate performance of some truly astonishing works for solo cello.

Hannah began the evening with one of the instruments best known works; Bach‘s Suite no.3 in C Major. This beatifully poised performance was followed by an atmospheric performance of John Tavaner‘s Chant before a dazzling and virtuosic rendering of little known composer, Boris Tchaikovsky‘s Suite for solo Cello.
