RNCM Students to conduct Camerata

Three students who are in the second year of their postgraduate conducting course at the RNCM will conduct Manchester Camerata on the weekend of 15 and 16 May.

Juan Ortuno, Edwina Wolstencroft and Ian Davis will be assessed on their performance as part of their studies.

The RNCM‘s postgraduate conducting course is the only course which currently offers students the opportunity to conduct a professional orchestra as part of their assessment. The concerts (15 & 16 May, 7.30pm) will also provide the assessments of four students who are currently studying for the inaugural International Artists Diplomas at the RNCM: Philip Higham (cello), Eva Thorarinsdottir (violin), Katerya Titova and Slava Sidorenko (piano).

Clark Rundell, RNCM Head of Conducting, commented, ‘The opportunity to conduct an established professional orchestra as part of the final assessment for postgraduate conducting students is a remarkable development and places the RNCM conducting course at the forefront of conducting studies in Europe and internationally.’

The concert programmes include Mozart’s Piano Concerto no 27 and Tchaikovksy’s Variations on a Rococo Theme (15 May), and Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor (16 May). Full programme details are available at https://www.rncm.ac.uk/
