RNCM Students Concerto Weekend

RNCM Students are gearing up for RNCM International Artist Diploma Concerto Weekend – 15 and 16 May, 2010

Following a remarkable series of recitals in the Spring, violinist Eva Thorarinsdottir, cellist Philip Higham and pianists Slava Sidorenko and Kateryna Titova now turn their attentions to the concerto repertoire, their choices feeding this weekend of wonderful repertoire with the RNCM’s resident orchestra, Manchester Camerata.

The International Artist Diploma Course is designed for a select number of students who, beyond a final year of performance-focussed study, will go on to enjoy successful careers as solo artists. Already, several of this year’s intake have secured agent representation and recording contracts. Don’t fail to take up this final opportunity to catch the four performing at the RNCM before they graduate!

Programme:

Saturday 15 May 2010

Philip Higham and Kateryna Titova – Piano Concerto No 27 was Mozart’s last, completed 11 months before the composer’s death and following two years of extreme hardship. The piece evokes a variety of intensely personal and painful experiences and is by turns mysterious, luminous and tragic.

Sunday 16 May 2010

Slava Sidorenko and Eva Thorarinsdottir – Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto was the last to be performed by the composer and at its heart is a sense of serenity. The intimate character that prevails throughout the work makes itself felt in the very opening, stated by the piano alone in a mood of calm, contemplative self-confidence.
