Sir Gerald Kaufman MP joins Camerata Trust

| Sir Gerald Kaufman, Labour MP for Gorton, Manchester, has been appointed a Trustee of the Manchester Camerata Trust. Sir Gerald has been a supporter of the orchestra for a number of years.
Speaking about his appointment, Sir Gerald said, “I am very pleased to be joining the Trust at this exciting time, when the appointments of Gábor Takács-Nagy as Music Director and Giovanni Guzzo as leader add a new, international dimension to the orchestra’s profile. I am very much looking forward to working with the creative and imaginative team behind this remarkable orchestra.”
Michael Grindrod, Chairman of the Trust, said, “We are delighted that Sir Gerald has accepted our invitation to join the Manchester Camerata Trust and so formalise the very good relationship we have had with him over the years. His experience will be of great benefit to us, and his presence on the Trust will greatly strengthen it in its work supporting the long-term future of the orchestra.” |

Sir Gerald Kaufman has been a Labour Member of Parliament since 1970, first for Manchester Ardwick, and then subsequently for Manchester Gorton. He was a government minister during the 1970s and a member of the Shadow Cabinet in the 1980s. He is a prolific author and consistent advocate of public subsidy for the arts.
Manchester Camerata Trust was set up in 1987 to support the objectives and work of Manchester Camerata. It is separately constituted from the orchestra, and is a registered charity (Number 519574). The other trustees of Manchester Camerata Trust are: Michael Grindrod (Chair) Jane Taylor; Richard Zoltie; Geoffrey Shindler OBE; and Joanna Hartley.
