‘Sonic’ Posters at Oxford Road Station

‘Sonic’ posters use music to publicise Manchester Camerata’s New Year concerts at The Bridgewater Hall.
Travellers passing through Manchester’s Oxford Road train station over the next couple of weeks will be wooed by the sounds of Manchester Camerata playing Mozart, Beethoven and Mahler, but there won’t be a musician in sight. Instead, the orchestra has joined forces with The Bridgewater Hall to promote its forthcoming New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day concerts via a ‘sonic’ poster. The poster is triggered into playing music whenever anyone approaches and is a first for the classical music scene in Manchester.
Speaking about this development, Manchester Camerata’s Chief Executive, Bob Riley said: “One of the secrets of Manchester Camerata’s success is the way we are always open to new experiences and new challenges that exploit the latest technology – whether in our core activity of music-making or in the ways in which we seek to reach the general public. We recently took part in a live synchronised performance with an ensemble in Venice via the Internet, using the latest groundbreaking technology. Now we are drawing attention to our fantastic pair of New Year concerts via some startling technology on the street. I am delighted that The Bridgewater Hall has joined us by backing this exciting project.”
The “sonic” posters have been installed by outdoor advertising company CBS Outdoor.
The events they publicise take place on 31 December and 1 January at The Bridgewater Hall, enabling audiences to enjoy a full evening’s celebration on New Year’s Eve – with dining possibilities included – and to mark the start of the New Year in true Viennese style.
