Lebanese composer Bushra El-Turk discusses Mahler’s Inspirational Music
The Lebanese composer Bushra El-Turk has been speaking to the BBC about her new composition, to be premiered on Saturday 30th of January as part of Manchester Camerata’s concert celebrating the life and works of Gustav Mahler. 2010 marks 150 years since the great composer’s birth, and together with the BBC Philharmonic and the Halle, Manchester Camerata are presenting Mahler’s greatest works – all the symphonies in order, plus Das Lied von der Erde. Each concert will feature a new work by a contemporary composer. Busra El-Turk’s Mosaic will start the Manchester Camerata concert of Das Lied. Speaking to BBC Radio 3’s Music Matters, she explains how Mahler has proved an inspiration to her own work.
