Camerata Return To Crewe For Three Concert Series
Posted on December 1, 2015
Following a successful visit to Crewe Lyceum Theatre in September, Manchester Camerata will return in the New Year with a season of three exceptional orchestral concerts.
The concerts, supported by the Arts Council England and Cheshire East Council, will showcase one of Europe’s best chamber orchestras and will feature top classical talent from across the world.
Regarding the orchestra’s return Crewe Lyceum’s Theatre Director, Gordon Millar said: “We are privileged to welcome an incredible series of revered and popular classical concerts to the Lyceum. We are most grateful to the Arts Council and Cheshire East for their support. Not only does it ensure we can stage the concerts but it also provides an opportunity for members of our local community to engage in a series of complimentary music workshops.
The programme commences on January 4th with a ‘feel-good’ Viennese concert to start 2016. The concert features the supremely talented soprano, Olena Tokar and up-and-coming conductor, Alpesh Chauhan, who has recently appeared in a new BBC film, Ten Pieces Secondary. Highlights include operetta classics by Lehár and Strauss Junior, with the famous Blue Danube Waltz as its centrepiece.
On Friday 11th March the Lyceum welcomes pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet for an all-Mozart programme set to redefine live performances of the great master. Violin sensation Nicola Benedetti makes her debut on June 2nd with another Mozart inspired concert. Benedetti is joined by conductor, Andrea Marcon who is renowned for his vivid interpretations of Baroque and Classical pieces.
The 2016 programme follows Manchester Camerata’s successful and long awaited return to the Lyceum in September, with hundreds of classical music fans from across the region attending to see the orchestra perform with world renowned classical guitarist, Craig Ogden.
In addition to the three concert performances, Manchester Camerata’s Learning and Participation team will also be working with young people living in Crewe and across Cheshire. Working with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS), teacher training students from the University of Chester, and practitioners from Manchester Camerata, 80 young people from four Cheshire colleges are being invited to create a piece of music theatre called ‘Fatal Distraction’, which raises awareness of the dangers and consequences of distractions while driving. The new piece will be performed in February at a special event for an audience of college students, friends, family and invited guests.
Crewe Lyceum Theatre and Manchester Camerata will also be working with Cheshire East Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to invite young people living with a mental health condition and their families to take part in rehearsal visits, informal social sessions with musicians and attendance at concerts.
Councillor Sam Gardner at Cheshire East Council said: ‘Cheshire East Council is pleased to help bring world class entertainment to residents of Cheshire East.’
Bob Riley, Chief Executive of Manchester Camerata said ‘We are delighted to be back in Crewe again and are looking forward to bringing some of the world’s most exceptional musicians to the town.’
