Camerata Returns To Crewe
Posted on August 17, 2015
Manchester Camerata is returning to the Crewe Lyceum on 27 September for the first time since 2010 with a concert which aims to lay the foundations for re-establishing a concert series in the town.
The orchestra was unable to continue its concert series back in 2010 due to funding cuts, however with the support of Crewe Lyceum and Cheshire East Council, the Camerata, one of Europe’s best chamber orchestras will once again be serenading the citizens of Crewe.
Regarding the orchestra’s return Crewe Lyceum’s Theatre Director, Gordon Millar said: “Thanks to the support of Cheshire East Council we are privileged and proud to once again host one of the most revered orchestras in Europe and bring the best in classical music to Cheshire.”
The concert on 27 September at 7.30pm celebrates the spirit of España and sees classical guitar phenomenon Miloš Karadaglić performing Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez, plus a surprise bonus track from The Beatles. Miloš’ first commercial solo album topped the UK classical charts and his passion for the guitar is matched by an intuitive sense of how to bring the instrument across to his audience.
Bob Riley, Chief Executive, Manchester Camerata commented: “We are delighted to be returning to Crewe after 5 years absence and are looking forward to bringing some of the world’s most exceptional musicians to the town.”
Manchester Camerata has seen a few changes since it was last in Crewe, notably a new Music Director – the great Hungarian musician, Gábor Takács-Nagy, and an outstanding new leader – Adi Brett. The orchestra is renowned for its diverse and eclectic concert programming alongside a pioneering Learning and Participation programme, using music to promote positive change and personal social development across three specialist areas of expertise: young people in schools, health and wellbeing, and its youth programme.
The concert programme for the evening also includes Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture, Chabrier’s España and a fresh new interpretation from Gábor Takács-Nagy and Manchester Camerata of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.
Tickets start from £19 and can be purchased via crewelyceum.co.uk or via the box office 01270 368242.
