Manchester Camerata’s Digital Concert Hall: Live at LICA Concert Streaming on 10 February

Manchester Camerata Ensemble’s unique audio and visual performance of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) on 10 February at the Great Hall, Lancaster University, will be filmed and streamed live with international partners IC247 to Ustream and featured on their homepage as well as via Manchester Camerata’s website.

The streaming facilities are being provided by Lancaster University’s SuperJANET SMDS backbone network and will help the orchestra extend to the widest possible audience. In the 2010/11 concert season Camerata’s live streamed and delayed broadcasts have reached up to 10,000 people in the digital concert hall.

The concert can also be viewed live from Facebook and will be accompanied by live contributions on chat, Twitter, Facebook, AIM and MySpace.

Camerata Ensemble’s performance of Schoenberg’s rich and evocative early work will be enhanced by sensational real-time digital visuals created by Netia Jones, the video artist who specialises in presenting music with integrated video and film.

Fiona Sinclair, Associate Director of Live at LICA, commented: “The project aims to enhance learning for students at Lancaster University and further afield. Students can join in a live webchat during the performance to find out more about the works being performed. And filmmaker Netia Jones will be revealing her techniques in a special Podium Lecture to students from the Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts (LICA).”

This appealing chamber music programme will be performed by seven Manchester Camerata musicians, led by the orchestra’s vivacious new leader, the young Venezuelan/Italian violinist Giovanni Guzzo. The ensemble are now old hands at delivering performances exploiting the latest in digital technology: Manchester Camerata’s Manchester concerts have been streamed live on several occasions. Their recent performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 (Choral), live at the Bridgewater Hall, is currently available to watch free on Medici TV.
