Camerata In The Community And The Big Friendly Giant

Throughout January and February, Camerata in the Community are delivering a project based on the story of Roald Dahl’s BFG in partnership with North West Midlands Music Education Hub. The project began with two teacher training sessions, giving teachers guidance with regards to creating original words and lyrics with their class on their unique scene from the book.

Over 20 primary schools are involved in the project and will receive a half day workshop between January and February to create the melodies, lyrics and accompaniment of a short song based on their BFG scene. Composer Andy Smith is then orchestrating these songs to form the body of two performances on 14th February in Stafford Showground, in which all the schools will come together to share their new songs for their families alongside a quartet of Manchester Camerata musicians.
