Clarinettist Fiona Cross plays Mozart

Camerata’s principal clarinettist, Fiona Cross, brings her outstanding musicality and virtuosity to Mozart’s ever-popular Clarinet Concerto in Camerata’s concert on 25 September 2010.

Clarinettist Fiona Cross is widely recognised for her ‘charismatic musicianship’ (The Guardian) and performs extensively on the concert platform. She made her debut performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto to great acclaim with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin at the Royal Festival Hall. She has also played concertos with London Symphony Orchestra, London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra and Bournemouth Sinfonietta.

Festival appearances include Huddersfield, Harrogate, Bath and Brighton as well as regular concerts in London at the Wigmore Hall, the South Bank and on BBC Radio 3.

Fiona works regularly with the Coull and Alberni String Quartets and the Goldberg Ensemble. She has broadcast for Radio 3 and recorded for Hyperion with the Vanbrugh Quartet and is also a member of the Kegelstatt Trio, Configure 8, and the Cross/Webb clarinet and harp duo. Awards have included LPO/Pioneer ‘Young Soloist of the Year’ competition, Fina/South East Arts ‘Young Musicians Platform’, and the Park Lane Group Purcell Room Recital Award. Future plans include the release of a contemporary clarinet recital CD, and a CD recording of the Horovitz clarinet concerto with the English Sinfonia.

Apart from working with Manchester Camerata, Fiona is principal clarinet with the English Sinfonia and is professor of clarinet at Trinity College of Music, London
