DIRECTOR – Nigel M Taylor

Manchester Camerata has a strong team of directors who play a crucial role in guiding the business of the orchestra at a particularly challenging time.  They oversee the development of policy, strategy and operations – underpinning the orchestras sense of purpose and direction. They work closely with the Artistic Team to manage and develop the company helping to make it one of the most exciting and forward thinking music organisations in the country.

Nigel is an honours graduate of Durham University and gained a Masters degree from Manchester University. After teaching in a number of secondary schools he held senior music posts with Bolton and Shropshire LEAs.

Nigel joined Staffordshire County Council in 1997. Amongst a variety of roles he continues to be Head of Staffordshire Performing Arts, one of the largest and most innovative music services in the UK. 

Nigel was an OFSTED inspector for over 10 years serving on 80 school inspections and is a consultant to schools, Local Authorities and arts organisations. Nigel has held conducting posts with ensembles such as Birmingham Sinfonietta, Corus Brass, Harmonie ‘ 84 and JSVB and is particularly known for his innovative work with youth orchestras, bands and choirs, a number of which have won national and international awards.

He was founder conductor of 150-strong international youth orchestra comprised of musicians from Bolton, Le Man and Paderborn and continues a schedule as guest conductor.
