Exchanges – 2009/10 Season

Posted on May 21, 2009

In May 2009, Manchester Camerata will launch its 2009/10 concert season. Our theme is Exchanges, be they musical, cultural or ideological.

In some concerts the exchange between composers follows the traditional route – Beethoven influencing the music of Brahms, or Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov’s tribute to the late Astor Piazzolla. In other concerts, we will be performing works such as Handel’s Belshazzar and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde which have inspired us to follow totally fresh paths via our learning and participation work.

We’re keeping a few suprises up our sleeves; listen out for a short unpublicised piece in every concert inspired by the season theme. We will be making live recordings of two more Beethoven Symphonies as part of our ongoing cycle and are proud to welcome some truly world-class soloists, including American pianist Jonathan Biss, singers Robin Blaze and Jane Irwin, and great friend to Camerata, Kathryn Stott.

And you won’t be able to miss our striking season artwork, not least in our season brochure which was produced in collaboration with young urban graffiti artist Sophie Backhouse. Don’t worry though; no walls were harmed during the making of the brochure!
