Fantasia for Fallowfield and Rusholme

On 26th November the elegant Georgian surroundings of Platt Hall were the setting for a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Platt Fields, by pupils from two Manchester primary schools, a group of local residents and four Camerata musicians. On arrival the audience were serenaded from the majestic double staircase, whilst admiring a slide show of photos of the early days of the park. They were then treated to a series of soundscape pictures of the area, with a chorus sung by children from both Wilbraham and Birchfields Primary Schools, accompanied by Cathy Studman (violin), Pete Mainwaring (trumpet), Ben Hudson (bassoon) and directed by composer Nina Whiteman. The project was in collaboration with Manchester City Council.
