Gábor Takács-Nagy, Music Director, Manchester Camerata

“I am so happy with my friends in the Orchestra, they play so well and they understand me so quickly, I can hardly wait to start our season.  I am very happy to be here and to be accepted in this beautiful hall. I am touched by everything, and love Manchester more!”

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council.

“Camerata are very important to us and we shouldn’t be slow to celebrate what’s important and I think it could be the start of an important period for the city. As well as his work with Camerata he’s obviously working with the RNCM. He’s someone with a very distinguished background as a performer, as a conductor, coming here now with a very significant role to play, and I think we should welcome that.”

Bob Riley, Chief Executive, Manchester Camerata

“With Gabor you just have to say his name and let him do his thing.  But i guess if I had to describe him and he wasn’t there, I would say he’s one of the most intuitive, charismatic and perceptive musicians I have ever come across who goes straight to the heart of the music.”

Vicky Rosin, Deputy Chief Executive of Manchester City Council

“It was fantasic, and what energy!! I could have stayed there for hours just watching his work. I think that’s what inspires people – to see someone who really really loves what they’re doing. So we should be seeing a lot more of him in the near future.”

Hanna Roberts, Principal Cello, Manchester Camerata

“The fact that he is a natural chamber musician himself really influences the way that he is very free physically with the orchestra, and he can illicit lots of different shapes and sounds without having to explain them, just by the gestures and that kinf of thing. I think there’s no coincidence that he’s also a great teacher and very well respected in the profession, is a real plus point for us.”

Lawrence Jones, MD UKFast, Manchester Camerata Director

“Each time I’ve heard him speak he moves me, so I find him an inspirational character, and I think if you are a business man or a sports professional or a leader of an orchestra you have to be inspirational, so it’s great to have such an inspiring man at the helm of such an important orchestra. “
