Man-eating snakes and armies of mice! – Songlines is well underway

Posted on February 28, 2011

Songlines snakeThe Songlines project is a collaboration between Manchester Camerata and the Royal Exchange Theatre, who are working with a group of young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder; the project is now into its second term.

Using Aboriginal Songlines as their inspiration the youngsters are creating a unique piece of musical theatre, and on 20th December gave an informal performance of their work so far for parents and friends.

The young people aged between 10 and 14, who come from all over Greater Manchester, attend a weekly session with three Camerata musicians (trombonist Tim Chatterton, percussionist Janet Fulton and composer Eve Harrison), the Royal Exchange Dramatist Liam McCormick, and visual artist Adela Jones.

The sessions, which develop skills in music, drama and teamwork, resumed in January when some new participants came to join in the fun.  The project runs until 11th April, when parents and friends will have the opportunity to see the complete show!
