Robert Beale, writing in Classical Music, looks ahead for Manchester Camerata

“The three orchestras based at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall have announced season plans for 2010/11 which see a focus on major British works from Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé, and farewells from Gianandrea Noseda at the BBC Philharmonic and Douglas Boyd at Manchester Camerata.

Douglas Boyd’s successor as music director of Manchester Camerata from 2011 has already been announced: Gábor Takács-Nagy appears this year in a series of concerts based on European cities and including three world premieres, to be given at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Apart from its traditional New Year knees-up, the Camerata does not perform at the Bridgewater Hall until 2011, when Boyd completes his Beethoven symphony cycle of performance/recordings with the ninth (with the CBSO Chorus). There is a St John Passion with north west choir St George’s Singers, conducted by Nicholas Kraemer, in April, and Boyd bows out in May with Berlioz’ Les nuits d’été and Mendelssohn’s complete “
