Camerata Digitally Speaking

Thanks to Manchester Camerata’s friends at the Manchester Digital Development Agency, Let’s Go Global and Medici.tv, the excitement of Camerata’s Pictures from St Petersburg Concert on Saturday 23 October reached well beyond the RNCM Concert Hall.

Well before the audience took their seats inside the RNCM Concert Hall on Oxford Road, the team led by the MDDA – Manchester Digital Development Agency – were setting up microphones, cameras, and making sure that everything was in place for this ambitious digital sharing of the event. Paul Spensley from the MDDA explains how the system was set up:

The images from the cameras inside the concert hall were all fed into the control area on one of the balconies, out of sight of the audience.
In all there were three feeds produced. One top quality feed was being beamed to Medici.tv, the prestigious classical music channel who made the concert available on their website across the world. A second feed was made available on Manchester Camerata’s own website for free, allowing anyone to enjoy the exciting performance. |

A third feed was then sent to the BBC Big Screen in Exchange Square in the Centre of Manchester where the concert was seen by evening revellers. Although this digital event was definately a first for Manchester Camerata, it’s not the first time the orchestra has worked with the MDDA. This time last year they collaborated to create a live synchronised performance by Manchester Camerata and the Venetian ensemble Ex Novo which was also relayed to the Venice World Forum on Climate Change. |
