Creatively Spooky in Chester

“My children just loved it, that’s why we keep coming back”…“The expertise of the staff who lead the children so supportively” was the best thing of the day. Just some of the comments from people taking part in Manchester Camerata’s Family Creativity Day on 23 October 2010 at Queen’s School in Chester. The event was a huge success with parents and children working with musicians, an artist and a dramatist to create Halloween themed performances based on spooky stories, incorporating music, drama and shadow puppetry. The aim of the Family Creativity Day is for families to spend the day together working on a particular story or theme, to produce an afternoon performance. When each family arrived they were allocated to one of three groups and work on a rotation basis to experience three workshops. |

– The first workshop was percussion based and everyone can have a go on a huge range of percussion, including sleigh bells, gongs, timpani, drums, wind chimes, exotic African and Asian instruments.
– The second workshop was craft based and everyone gets to make props, scenery, costumes and instruments for the final performance.
– The third workshop was drama based and gives everyone involved the chance to breathe life into a script and flex their acting muscles!
The three groups came together at the end for a final performance on the stage.
