Pageant of power success at Cholmondeley castle. Thrill-seekers braved the wet weather to see the best historic racing cars go at breathtaking speeds at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power last weekend.
Around 35,000 people attended the event over the weekend.
This year’s Buggatti theme went down a storm with 14 of the finest Bugatti’s on show including the £1.5m Veyron.
The crowds were wowed by both modern and classic aircraft, including more than 175 helicopters. There was a spitfire fly past, Breitling aerobatic display and the RAF Falcons parachute team showed of their skills.
The dancing JCB diggers proved popular with youngsters as well as the traditional funfair and human football table.
This year the organiser combined the pageant with the Cholmondeley castle gardens concert and fireworks display. The gloomy weather failed to put off thousands of music lovers who bought tables, chairs, picnics and of course umbrellas to the castle gardens to watch the Manchester Camerata Orchestra perform. Music included Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries and the Star Wars theme. The evening concluded with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture accompanied by real cannon fire and a dramatic firework display.
Show director James Hall said: “We have just experienced one of the most astonishing weekends ever held in this region. The magnificent racing cars, bikes, boats, helicopters and tanks on display were quite breathtaking. “These astonishing feats could only have been organised and accomplished with an exceptional team at Cholmondeley – the messages of congratulations have been flooding in and we are very proud of what has been achieved.”
