Portrait of Chester

The Portrait of Chester learning project from Manchester Camerata sees eight schools from across the city working with Camerata musicians, a composer and visual artist to create a new piece of music inspired by living and growing up in Chester, with the final performance being held at Chester Cathedral on 27 January 2012.

The children have been working with composer Andy Smith, visual artist Harriett Hall, and Camerata musicians flautist Amina Hussain and Horn player Dave Tollington.

Two Chester school clusters are having 4 days of workshops each to create their own Portrait of what living in Chester means to them. They will be taking photographs, writing their own music and lyrics as well as reflecting on their own memories and opinions of Chester.

They will create a photographic collage in the shape of Chester to be displayed at the Bridgewater Hall alongside Portraits from other areas as an exhibition piece at our end of season concert.

Their new music will be performed all together at Chester Cathedral to an audience including the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, the Sheriff of Chester, the Dean of Chester and the Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council with their photographic collage on display.

The final performance will take place at 2pm on Friday 27 January 2012.
