Stanley Grove Primary’s Baroque Experience

On Saturday 27 November 2010 a group of children from Stanley Grove Primary School were treated to a taste of baroque splendour thanks to Manchester investment firm, Castlefield.

Baroque in Dresden – another breathtaking concert in the life of Manchester Camerata with the virtuosic music making of the world renowned harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani.

In the audience a group of children from Stanley Grove Primary School who’d been specially invited by Manchester Camerata and Castlefield Investments to experience live music at first hand. 

Carolyn Davies is Expressive Arts Leader and Music Co-ordinator at the school.  She says access to live music is crucial in so many ways.  “For our children, in terms of curriculum it does so many things.  It develops concentration, it broadens children’s outlook on life, it’s mathematical, it’s creative, it develops literacy skills.”

And she says live music always scores over recorded.  “It’s the whole thing about watching a group of professional musicians do their job really.  It’s an enriching experience for the children. It can only broaden their horizons and an as educators that’s what we’re trying to do.”
