Strauss’s Voice Begins…

For the next three months, Manchester Camerata, the Halle, BBC Philharmonic and The Bridgewater Hall join forces for Strauss’s Voice – a unique collaboration celebrating 150 years of the birth of the German composer Richard Strauss.

Manchester’s three orchestras will perform all Strauss’s orchestral songs and many of his great orchestral works including a joint performance of An Alpine Symphony  with the BBC Philharmonic and Hallé, and Camerata’s late-night performance of Metamorphosen, one of the composer’s most powerful orchestral works on 22 February. The celebrations take place over nine concerts and run for eight weeks from 9 January to 8 March 2014. All will be recorded by BBC Radio 3.

Over the last decade Manchester’s classical music community has united for landmark celebrations including tributes to Shostakovich and Mahler. The city is gaining a reputation for award-winning cultural collaborations which are unique in the UK. Strauss’s Voice is no exception in its scale and ambition, harnessing the formidable creative forces of the city for a substantial retrospective.
