Students explore Sonata Form
Posted on December 7, 2010
Musicians from Loreto College have been doing some in depth study of sonata form-by using it in their own composition!
Working with Camerata musicians Naomi Atherton (horn) and Gemma Bass (violin), and composer Gavin Wayte, the students created a perfectly formed sonata structure, scored for the unusual combination of pianos, guitars, voices and trumpet. They will now go on to study Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, an AS level set work, and find out whether Mozart’s mastery of sonata form is equal to their own! A recording of the students’ performance of their own work and the score they created may also be submitted as part of their course work.
