The Friends of Joy – Manchester Camerata in Budapest

Some highlights from a Hungarian review on our recent visit to Budapest. Link to full review below (translation required).

“The Manchester Camerata, with its concise, noble sound, presented itself convincingly in this pre-romantic, quasi large orchestral role, notwithstanding playing that may have been more fitting for Haydn and Mozart’s works.”

“Gábor Takács-Nagy forged together the individual, harmonious and suggestive into a whole with his usual maximalist artistic intensity, emphasising the importance of the tiniest details.”

“The especially melting sound of the orchestra’s strings blended with the harp’s backdrop, but we also heard a beautiful and meaningful viola solo.”

“The evening’s most complete and meaningful experience of was without a doubt thanks to the Mozart Symphony. “

“The slow introduction was monumentally dignified, the ornaments light and airy, and the “slipway” into the main subject immensely delicate and elegant. The sound of the strings was warmth itself… “

“The cohesive power of the legato of the slow movement was surprisingly wondrous [with] magical changes of tone … “

“… Very few people would have dared to take the risk. Takács-Nagy dared, and the result was an awesome experience; life itself.”
