Up Close with Camerata

Up Close is a collaboration between Manchester Camerata and artist John Hyatt to explore new ways of presenting chamber music in a relaxed way in a variety of venues across the city.The first of four exciting events took place at the Antony Burgess Foundation on 8 November 2011. |
| The concert featured quartet music by Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Aulis Sallinen, and Brahms Sextet no. 2.
A selection of Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives (originally for piano) were arranged especially for the evening by Simon Parkin. This performance also marked the beginning of a new collaboration with artist John Hyatt which will develop over the coming year throughout the next UpClose concerts. |
| After an introductory talk about his plans and ideas, John Hyatt then presented a slow-moving film he’d created to be played with the Sallinen piece ‘Quiet Songs’. |

| The next UpClose concert will take place on Tuesday 7 February 2012 at 8pm at the Deaf Institute in Manchester and will feature Golijov’s incredible work for klezmer clarinet and string quartet ‘The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind’. |
