Talking Point, 6:30pm

A free informal discussion about the music with some of the performers in the concert hall.

The opening concert of Manchester Camerata&s Colne season gets off to a lively start with a Baroque inspired programme, featuring two of Handel’s imaginative and spirited Concerto Grossi, as well as Bach’s marvellous Concerto for Two Violins, performed by leading British violinist Thomas Gould and Camerata’s own David Routledge. Commissioned to serve as interludes between Vivaldi&s flute concertos, Brett Dean&s brooding and unsettling miniatures are extremely evocative, making use of whispering harmonics and frenzied outbursts. Bringing the evening to an exciting close, Piazzolla’s vibrant Four Seasons give a nod of appreciation in Vivaldi&s direction, combining stately and debonair baroque elements with the energy, rhythms and sensual spirit of Argentinean tango.
