“Any baroque music emanating from Venice will be dominated by the towering figure of Vivaldi who is generously represented in this programme, but the addition of Handel’s early Venetian opera Agrippina, Brett Dean’s contemporary Short Stories (originally written to be performed between Vivaldi’s Flutes concertos) and one of Albinoni’s beautiful oboe concertos, makes this a truly fascinating evening.” – Nicholas Kraemer

Pre-concert performance: Urban Symphony, 2nd movment, 6.30pm A short performance of music composed by young people in response to Manchester’s neo-Baroque architecture.

Post-concert: ENCORE, 9.30pm

Camerata&s dynamic Permanent Guest Conductor and Baroque expert, Nicholas Kraemer, leads this programme rooted in 18th century Venice. Commissioned to serve as interludes between Vivaldi’s flute concertos, Australian composer Brett Dean’s imaginative, brooding and evocative Short Stories make use of whispering harmonics and frenzied outbursts to complete this eclectic celebration of Venice.
