Bizet, Elgar, Mozart In Stafford

Date: Thursday 12th February 2015 19:30

Venue: Gatehouse Theatre, Stafford

The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.& — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

In a typically dynamic Camerata programme enjoy Bizet&s less familiar masterpiece, Symphony in C, paired with two of the greatest pieces of classical music. Mesmerising Principal Cello, Hannah Roberts, performs Elgar&s elegiac Cello Concerto – arguably the most popular concerto ever written for the instrument. Mozart&s penultimate symphony (no.40), brings the evening to a dramatic conclusion.

One of the world’s most respected dealers of fine stringed instruments, JA Beare has generously loaned Hannah arare Stradivarius cello for the evening. The 1696 instrument is one of the very few cellos by the master rediscovered in the last 50 years, although the instrument may have been in London since the nineteenth century.

‘The levels of animation and musical energy are so high in the Camerata; we want people to have a vivid live experience every time.& — Hannah Roberts, principal cello
