Camerata In Budapest With Istvan Vardai

Date: Wednesday 18th March 2015 19:30

Venue: Franz Liszt Academy, Budapest

Manchester Camerata will perform at the world renowned Liszt Academy, Budapest – the first UK orchestra to perform at the venue since the extensive 44.8 million euro renovation project completion in October 2013. The concert will be conducted by Manchester Camerata’s Music Director, and Liszt Academy Teacher, G&abor Tak&acs-Nagy.

Camerata will be joined bythe talented young Hungarian cellist Istv&an V&ardai performing Haydn&s Cello Concerto in C Major. Winner of numerous awards including the Prix Montblanc for the world&s most promising musician and, most recently, the highly prestigious Liszt Prize, Istv&an V&ardai is a former student of the Franz Liszt Academy. The concert gets off to a dazzling start with Mozart’s joyous Symphony no.29 in A major. In contrast after the interval Elgar’s wistful Sospiri (‘sigh’) composed in 1914 for harp and orchestra evokes the idyllic world of peace before the onset of the First World War, Liszt Academy President Andrea Vigh will be joining the orchestra as harp soloist. Tchaikovsky’s heartwrenchingly elegiac Serenade for Strings brings the programme to a powerful conclusion.
