Join us for the Manchester cultural happening of 2014 as two of the city’s cultural gems come together for the very first time…
On Sunday 27 April, we shine a light on one of Manchester&s most stunning and hidden venues – Albert Hall, a forgotten Wesleyan chapel and Grade II listed building on Peter Street. Experience this striking find in its intriguing state of revival in a concert that fuses the classic with the quirky.
Grieg&s Holberg Suite is a perennial favourite, a suite of five movements based on eighteenth century dance forms, awash with charming melodies. This will follow with an exclusive premiere performance of a new work by young talent, and winner of our annual Composer’s Project Workshop Day, Tom Harrold. We are also joined by Christian Ihle Hadland, one of Norway&s most exciting young pianists, for the final Mozart concerto of the season, no.12, an early work performed here with just string orchestra. Rodion Shchedrin&s memorable work for strings and five percussionists is a reworking of Bizet&s Carmen – think all Bizet&s tunes dressed in differently coloured clothes – dramatic, entertaining and incredibly witty.
What’s more, we’ll be joined by Lithuanian internet-sensation and virtuoso accordionist, Martynas Levickis, for an energetic encore performance. Martynas is an amazing crossover artist whose latest album spans the music of Brahms and Verdi to Lady Gaga! Watch Martynas in action below.
Tickets are now only available on the door and can not be purchased from the box office prior to the event. Please note, seating in each price band is unreserved so taken on a first come first served basis on the day.
