Date: Friday 10th April 2015 19:00

Venue: Sheffield City Hall

Join us for an evening of favourite works for string orchestra. Due to illness, Adi Brett will no longer be able to perform at this event; we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Alpesh Chauhan will now conduct and our mesmerising principal cello, Hannah Roberts, will perform one of Haydn&s most popular works, the charming and spiritedCello Concerto in C major, a work which calls for great virtuosity from the soloist. Grieg&s charming Holberg Suite was composed to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of the playwright Ludvig Holberg and takes as its inspiration the music of the Baroque era. Timpani and triangle enrich the soundscape in Sibelius& evocative Rakastava, a three movement suite inspired by Nordic mythology, and finally, we hear Dvor&ak&s enchanting Serenade for Strings, a sunny work that simply brims with great tunes.
