The concert begins with one of Haydn&s most popular works, the charming and spirited Cello Concerto in C major, a work which calls for great virtuosity from the soloist, in this case our own mesmerising Hannah Roberts. The programme also features Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, the latter&s much loved Classical Symphony taking inspiration from the music of Haydn&s music while giving it a 20th century twist. Tchaikovsky&s heartfelt Serenade was also inspired by a classical composer, in this case Mozart, and contains one of Tchaikovsky&s most popular and enduring melodies.
