Manchester Camerata and the Philip Barker Charity invite you to attend the premiere of a new musical work, ‘I Have a Dream’,at Chester Cathedral on Wednesday 26 March 2014.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.&s iconic ‘I Have a Dream…& speech,more than 100 young people fromseven Cheshire West Chester primary schools, members of their communities and teacher training students from the University of Chester have come together tocreate their own original mini-opera.
The ‘I Have a Dream’ projectreflects onthe civil rights movement in the USA, including its effect in Chester&s sister city Pennsylvania where Dr Martin Luther King Jr. attended seminary college. It explores the idea of historical progress by highlighting the political and social differences between the USA in the mid 1900s and the USAat presentunder the presidency of Barack Obama.
The performance will profile the new piece that the participants have created from scratch in four days of intensive workshops with a Camerata composer, dramatist and professional musicians.
