Lake District Summer Music Festival 2014

Date: Saturday 02nd August 2014 20:00

Venue: Lakes Hall, Kendal

We open with one of the six Hamburgsymphonies commissioned in 1773 by CPE Bach’s patron Baron von Swieten, also the patron of Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart – Bach’s second son was considered greater than all of them in his lifetime. Richard Strauss’s late neo-classical oboe concerto is followed by one of his musical gods, Mozart – his penultimate symphony, one of three, was penned in just six miraculous weeks in the summer of 1788.
